AdBlue In your Fuel

Throughout Shropshire we have identified more and more occurrences of AdBlue contamination whereby a person has poured AdBlue directly into their diesel tank. This is partially due to people not knowing the way to use it (take note: it is not a fuel additive), and to some extent because the filler necks for diesel and AdBlue are generally right adjacent to each other on the car.

Now, exactly what is the problem with having AdBlue in a diesel tank? Seeing that AdBlue is primarily deionised water, it's just like putting water into your tank. Diesel and water will not mix at all and trying to run a diesel car on water cannot work. Furthermore, the urea is incredibly corrosive to the fuel system hoses and seals and is susceptible to crystalising, blocking injectors and fuel filters.

If perhaps you have put AdBlue into a fuel tank drain it asap. And of course don't turn over the motor - not even to relocate it into a parking area. If perhaps you did start the vehicle you will in all probability need to have the entire fuel system flushed and fuel filters changed out.

Water contaminated fuel
